This is very interesting publicationI am very glad indeed to have an opportunity to write a few words about the nearing to a close, second edition of the Ala has a pen typography workshop.The entire project originated from a need for bridging a gap in the Polish education system. Few people have designed the applied type- faces in Poland. The multiple attempts to design individual letters, sets of characters or even full alphabets in the typographic studios, were not digitized or circulated. The results of these experimental works could only be used in titles, usually as a single element, just an accent in the artistic composition. In the recent years the situation has changed, nevertheless, typeface design is neglected in the curricula of art acade- mies. The exceptions to this standard are very few.
